The Tradition Continues
For the fourth consecutive year we had an absolutely perfect day
to host our Lake Wildwood Sprint Triathlon. The air and water
temperatures were ideal and there was just a hint of a breeze to
propel the athletes towards the finish line where they received
a custom finishers medal and delicious pizza provided by The
Pizza Shed, cookies provided by Chrissy’s Cupboard in Lacon and
Tanners donuts.
Of the 93 athletes this year, 33 had competed in previous years
and this year we had 20 Lake Wildwood members participate!
We also had 57 volunteers help out in every facet of the race to
ensure that all of our athletes and guests had a safe and enjoyable experience. Special thanks to our GM, Shawn Dixon, as well
as our Maintenance and Security teams who dedicated considerable time to set up the race venue and keep our athletes safe
while competing.
Our two overall winners this year were Tom Smith (Peru) and
Michelle Potts (Downers Grove). Both Tom and Michelle have
won in previous years and have participated all four years. Hopefully they will return to defend their crown next year!
Also, congratulations to the Querciagrossas (The Q Boys) for
their amazing first place finish in the Relay division! AJ had the
best swim time over the entire field with 11:38, beating last year’s
time by over 30 seconds!
This year our youngest athlete was Dylan Scavnicar (13) of Woodridge and our most senior participant was Reid Hansen (72) of
Peoria. Remarkable achievement by both!
It was also great to see so many Lake Wildwood members and
friends cheer on the athletes along the course and at the finish
line. Thank you for your ongoing support for this event and for
promoting this wonderful community to our guests.
To our amazing volunteers, sponsors, and spectators:
